Toshiba Satellite Fusion 15 L55W-C5357, do you know what is the most distinctive feature of this model? It’s the 360-degree hinge on the screen which gives you the possibility to view the unit in laptop or tablet modes. So yes, it’s a 2-in-1 notebook which might sound good. But another thing is, how useful such a system actually is…

Who is it good for?

Toshiba Satellite Fusion 15 L55W-C5357 has plenty of performance for the casual user. Name of the processor is Intel Core i5-6200U, and as you can see, it’s a 6th generation (= the latest) model. Offering you a dual-core setup, its clock speed is 2.3GHz and turbo boost 2.8GHz. The i5-6200U is rather speedy for a laptop processor, it gets around 4000 points in CPU Mark. That, with the 8GB memory (non-upgradeable), gives you a solid base for running any type of programs, ranging from simple browser & YouTube to more demanding items from the Adobe family.

Let’s not forget the functional screen! The 15.6″ touch display rotates 360 degrees, meaning that when you choose so, the unit turns from a laptop to tablet. In addition to this converter mode, the screen is full of candies: Full HD resolution and IPS panel which contributes to wide viewing angles.

Who is it bad for?

Not outright bad, but players should be aware of the limited gaming capabilities. That’s because there is no dedicated graphics card in Toshiba Satellite Fusion 15 L55W-C5357, just the processor-integrated Intel HD 520. Now, if you were to play games like GTA 5 you’d get ~30FPS on low settings and 720p resolution. It’s certainly playable but the graphics are not very fancy. For games from the Steam service or types like League of Legends this laptop is however very sufficient.

Be advised that even though the hard drive is big (1TB) it’s quite slow (5400RPM). In addition, these drives with moving parts are not as durable as solid-state drives. If you are tech-savvy enough you should be able to replace the HDD with SSD here.

Other things that are important

Toshiba Satellite Fusion 15 L55W-C5357 doesn’t have a DVD burner of any sort but you’re welcome to use one that plugs into USB port. There’s however a memory card reader (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC) at your disposal.

The notebook includes three USB ports: two USB 3.0 (the other one for charging) and one USB 2.0. Also HDMI-out is present which allows you to hook up a monitor to this. Networking is handled through the 802.11ac WiFi card which also works with Bluetooth.

There has been some reports on operating time of the 3-cell battery. They say 5-6 hours which is decent, however often times these convertible models get an hour or two more (admittedly on a smaller screen which draws less power).

There’s backlight feature on the keyboard.

Toshiba Satellite Fusion 15 L55W-C5357 is a 2-in-1 laptop of decent performance. The Core i5 processor will take a home user long way, it’s even good for the more demanding people wanting to run bitcrunchers such as Photoshop or VirtualBox. Gaming is limited to older games (or low settings) due to integrated graphics, but that’s always the case in laptops of this price category. The selection of ports should be sufficient with USB 3.0 and HDMI. Nothing seems to be inherently wrong about this computer, check it out if a quality 2-in-1 is what you’re after!
