Razer RZ09-01962E12-R3U1 is one of the faster laptops of 2016. It’s a premium ultrabook with Core i7 processor, quality 12.5″ display and large solid-state drive. Unfortunately, the price is also high, so it takes a closer examination to see if this computer offers real value or not…
Intel Core i7-7500U is the processor in Razer RZ09-01962E12-R3U1, it’s the latest one (7th generation) dual-core unit with 2.7GHz clock rate and 3.5GHz turbo. Being one of the best ultra low voltage processors, this i7-7500U will undoubtedly be suitable for heavier work (think of image editing) as well. And don’t forget there’s a huge amount of RAM – 16GB – installed in the unit, which also makes sure that lagging isn’t something that this notebook is known for!
The computer comes with nothing less than a 512GB solid-state drive, so plenty of storage and great performance is guaranteed. And because of this, you don’t need to get your hands dirty with drive upgrades!
The screen is fantastic, it has 12.5″ diagonal with Quad HD resolution (2560 x 1440) support. The display should provide excellent image quality and response time given the high price. Also touch is supported, and webcam on top allows for video shootings for YouTube or Skype video sessions.
Razer RZ09-01962E12-R3U1 doesn’t offer too many connectors but I think that’s understandable, the unit is so small. There are two USB 3.0 and one USB 3.1 Type-C connector at your disposal for peripherals. Also one dedicated video output, HDMI, is there.
There is no RJ-45 port on this laptop, just a 802.11ac WiFi adapter with Bluetooth 4.1 support.
Optical drive isn’t included, the notebook is too small for that. If you absolutely need to use DVDs, you can get an external optical drive which is rather cheap – around 25 dollars.
The 45Wh battery lasts an alright amount, around 7 hours. That’s decent for an ultrabook, although keep in mind the battery can’t be replaced.
Razer RZ09-01962E12-R3U1 is an expensive notebook but it doesn’t have one thing: great graphics performance. The graphics engine you’ll get is Intel HD 620 which is okay for browser games, Minecraft and WoW, but don’t expect it to work well for demanding titles. You can try titles like GTA 5, but only use low settings and resolution, otherwise FPS will be too damn low!
There’s nothing wrong with Razer RZ09-01962E12-R3U1, per se. It’s a true power user notebook with plenty of oomph for whatever you want: video editing, programming or such work is a piece of cake for this. Of course you can not play too fancy games because of integrated graphics, but for software-related stuff it’s ace. The laptop is also very lightweight and thin, a good companion for traveler. If these things are what tickle your fancy, take a closer look at this Razer!
