If you’re looking for a low-cost gaming laptop, look elsewhere! MSI VR Ready GS63VR Stealth Pro-034 is a notebook for heavy duty use and this is reflected in the price, with the new (and fast) GeForce GTX1060 graphics engine speeding your games to frame rates never seen before. Sounds good yeah, but is it all really worth it…?

How good for games?

You might already know that recently, NVIDIA has put out a set of new graphics cards, the GeForce 1000 series. In this laptop is installed the GeForce GTX1060, a card with solid 6GB GDDR5 memory and performance above the older GTX 970. The magical limit for smooth gaming experience, the 60FPS, will be surpassed with any game – even with heaviest ones like Doom 3 or The Witcher 3 – using high/ultra settings and 1080p resolution. The system is also VR, Virtual Reality, ready.

General performance

The processor or MSI VR Ready GS63VR Stealth Pro-034 couldn’t get much better. It’s the Skylake-based Intel Core i7-6700HQ from the 6th generation, offering a full quad-core setup at your disposal. The base clock speed is rated at 2.6GHz while turbo boost takes it up to 3.5GHz. The processor is well enough for heavyweight gaming and software work, such as video editing or multitasking.

I can say the same about the memory of this unit – 16GB DDR4 is installed on two sticks which is a lot. With two 16GB sticks you can even upgrade that to 32 gigabytes.

Storage drives are carefully picked, with the 256GB M.2 SATA SSD being probably your first choice because it’s fast. There is also a terabyte 5400RPM 2.5-inches hard drive which you probably want to use storage for static data due its slowness. You can replace both drives, and the M.2 slot even supports PCIe(NVMe) format, however bear in mind prior to removing the M.2 drive you need to remove the motherboard.

What ports do I get?

MSI VR Ready GS63VR Stealth Pro-034 offers gamers a lot of ports to accommodate external peripherals and devices. The most important ones are three USB 3.0 ports with one USB 3.0 Type-C one alongside. The ports to hook up your monitor are full-sized HDMI and miniDisplayPort.

All is good with networking interfaces. There is a Gigabit RJ-45 port if you want to connect to Internet with cable, or a proper AC-supporting WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 card for the wireless way.

Bear in mind optical drive is not found this machine. However, SD card slot is installed for your convenience.

Other important features and benefits

MSI VR Ready GS63VR Stealth Pro-034 doesn’t seem to have excellent battery, only a 3-cell 57Whr one which is internal as well. Under gameplay it will last around 1 hour only and for web surfing it gives around 2 hours of battery life.

The display offers a lot: a 15.6″ diagonal, Full HD resolution support and IPS panel type. The screen has an anti-glare (matte coating). Touch support or G-Sync aren’t available. A built-in 1080p webcam is included.

The keyboard has backlight which operates in full color.

MSI VR Ready GS63VR Stealth Pro-034 is about as good as a gaming laptop can get. The new, top-of-the-line GTX 1060 card is not a disappointment, all games you play on this system will have smooth and free-of-worries frame rates. The solid-state drive will hold plenty of data and serve your files even quicker. The biggest question is obviously the price – but if you’re determined (and rich) enough, getting this MSI for gaming sounds like a good idea!
