Lenovo Yoga 710 80V4000GUS is one of those laptops that is actually not only a laptop. Its screen will rotate to tablet mode, essentially providing you two devices in one package. Furthermore, the computer seems to offer decent components such as 7th generation Intel processor and a speedy solid-state drive! Now, let’s delve deeper into the subject and see if it’s a good buy or just a bad product…

Is this notebook fast enough for me?

Probably. It of course depends on what you actually do with your computer. But I can tell you, even power users should find Lenovo Yoga 710 80V4000GUS adequate. You see, processor is one of the better choices, the Intel Core i5-7200U. It runs on two cores while offering a nice 2.5GHz clock speed with a high 3.1GHz turbo boost. Don’t forget it’s also a 7th generation (= the latest) unit, released in the end of 2016. It does a good job in benchmarks, the most popular being CPU Mark with ~4700 points.

The storage drive is exactly how it should be in a laptop of this price. Included is a 256GB solid-state drive – no slow hard drives here! The SSD plays a big part on the high performance of this notebook. It also makes Windows boot up in a few seconds. The SSD can be replaced if you know what you are doing.

Memorize this: the memory amount of this laptop is 8GB, the perfect setup for both casual and demanding use. It’s the newer DDR4 memory operating at 2133MHz speed. There’s only one RAM slot on the mainboard all in all, but you can replace the current stick with 16GB one if you want the memory boost for some reason.

How is the gaming performance?

The name of the graphics card here is Intel HD 620. In case you know something about computers you also know that graphics engine isn’t too fast. In fact, it’s integrated unit, a tiny chip on the processor. There’s not much it can offer for demanding gamers. Newer “Triple A” games are a tough job, for example GTA 5 will give less than desirable 25-30FPS on lowest possible settings and 720p resolution. Doom and especially The Witcher 3 will have even poorer FPS. On the other hand, lightweight games such as CS: Go, Minecraft and League of Legends can be played pretty much with high settings and resolution.

Are there enough ports and connections?

Lenovo Yoga 710 80V4000GUS being one of the smaller notebooks there’s not too much space for ports on the sides. Anyway, present are two USB 3.0 connectors. There are no USB Type-C ports on this unit as some advertisements falsely claimed. A video output is brought to you by micro-HDMI connector.

There’s a long-range and fast AC WiFi adapter ready to connect you to Internet. Available is Bluetooth, too. One thing you should know, RJ-45 port is not installed for networking with cable.

It’s a thin model, thus there is no CD/DVD drive installed – no space for internal drive. You can opt for an external one if you want to. Maybe you’ll be happy with the memory card reader as well, it will take cards at least in the SD format.

Other noteworthy things?

It looks like they included a great display on Lenovo Yoga 710 80V4000GUS. The size is rather compact 14 inches while it allows for 1920×1080 resolution. Yes, plenty of screen estate will be available that helps you, for example, in Photoshopping. The hinge turns 360 degrees meaning this thing can be used in laptop and tablet modes. Of course, the screen is touch sensitive as well.

Lenovo says the battery life for this product is 8 hours. Often these claims are incorrect, but with this particular laptop there are user reports confirming the claim to be true. People talked about 9 hours running time on the 4-cell battery. That is very good, it will take you through the day easily.

A good thing for some, the notebook features a backlit keyboard.

Verdict

In my opinion, most users just can’t go wrong with Lenovo Yoga 710 80V4000GUS. It has impressive performance under the hood, the main points of interests being Core i5 processor and solid-state drive. Appropriate for this price, also the 2-in-1 display supports Full HD – professionals that work with graphics will appreciate the 1080p screen. If I was to say something negative it would be gaming performance: only integrated graphics card is found inside. Otherwise, as said above, the Lenovo is very decent and safe choice if you’re after some laptop quality and performance!
