HP ENVY m7-n109dx, at least on Amazon.com it’s a certified refurbished model so it’s not brand new, but also the price will be lower. There are some nice things included, such as 17-inch Full HD display and powerful Core i7 processor. But what are the disadvantages of this laptop, should you really get it or not..?
Performance in nutshell
HP ENVY m7-n109dx features a high-end laptop processor, Intel Core i7-6500U with 2.5GHz clock speed and turbo of 3.1GHz. Core amount is two. There is nothing wrong with the benchmark tests either, CPU Mark for example grades this at ~4300 points. Power users will like that, also 16GB system memory is what will make the more demanding users happy – programs should run smooth as a silk on this machine.
Hard drive is another question, you’ll receive a regular one-terabyte 5400RPM hard drive. It’s not the fastest one in the bunch but at least allows you to store a huge amount of data inside. However, there should be a free slot for an extra 2.5″ drive inside, so installing an SSD is rather effortless.
Well, HP ENVY m7-n109dx has a video card (GeForce 940M) with 2GB dedicated memory. It’s not the best chip there is, but it’s not stopping you from enjoying many games, either. For example, GTA 5 will be smooth as a silk on low-to-medium settings and 720p resolution (you could even try Full HD which probably works). Pretty much all games run, but you might not be able to use high settings on all of them.
What ports and connections does it have?
HP ENVY m7-n109dx includes four USB ports, all support the version 3.0. The video output is brought to you by HDMI port, connecting a PC display to that is possible. The notebook also has a networking adapter (Gigabit RJ-45 port) and 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth card.
Optical drive and card reader are included for easy data transfers to and from the notebook. The card reader is good for example getting your photos from digital camera to the laptop.
Other important benefits and features?
I’d say the screen is a strong point of this machine; it’s a 17.3-inch model with 1920×1080 resolution and IPS panel. The latter means very wide viewing angles, pretty much 180 degrees. Touch is supported. Also the webcam on top is excellent, supporting 1920×1080 resolution for video.
The 4-cell 41Whr battery is rather weak for this unit; 3-4 hours is the average you’ll get when web surfing.
Keyboard is backlit, helps you to type in the dark.
Operating system is Windows 10 Home (64-bit).
HP ENVY m7-n109dx is a laptop of high performance, so logically someone with power-hungry applications would benefit most from it. You are not going to experience lag on software thanks to the Core i7 processor and a whopping 16GB memory. Another good thing is the gaming performance; at least if you’re happy with having less eye candy on. There’s not much to complain about, perhaps the battery could be a beefier one.
