If you don’t want to pay a lot for your desktop, look for some other unit than HP Envy 750-175se DT. The computer surely costs quite much, but offers a lot in return: top-of-the-line processor, huge hard drive and dedicated graphics card for players. But is the desktop worth it after all? I’ll tell you my opinion on that below.

How’s general performance?

Probably not a surprise for you, the processor performance is super in HP Envy 750-175se DT. The unit in question is Intel’s flagship Core i7-6700, a 6th generation, quad-core powerhouse of 3.4GHz base frequency and 4.0GHz turbo. It gets around 9900 points in CPU Mark which is so plenty, even for the most demanding users with video editors and CAD software. Also quite much of memory is offered (12GB DDR4, 1x8GB + 1x4GB) however you can add much more: there are in total four DDR4 memory slots supporting up to 64GB memory.

There’s a spinning 2TB 7200RPM SATA 3 hard drive for storage, so not great performance is present but huge storage size is. The two terabytes equals to four hundred DVDs full of data. Somebody looking for a data storage solution would like it. You can also add more drives, there are two free slots for 3.5″ units or one M.2 slot for a solid-state drive.

Can be used for gaming?

HP Envy 750-175se DT has great gaming capabilities. The graphics card is GeForce GTX 970 with 4GB dedicated GDDR5 memory. That is actually one of the best gaming cards you can currently get, so expect a smooth sail for games. For example, GTA 5 played on Full HD and very high / ultra settings will give far over 60FPS. The heavyweight Witcher 3 will also run smooth, giving +40FPS on similar settings.

If you want to, feel free to change the card, it’s attached to PCI-e x16 slot. Just keep in mind SLI isn’t supported as just one such a slot is available.

What devices and peripherals can be plugged in?

HP Envy 750-175se DT includes in total 10 USB ports, four of them are USB 3.0 while six are USB 2.0. For video outputs, the GTX970 offers you DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort, so at least three monitors can be connected simultaneously.

The computer has integrated Gigabit Ethernet circuit with RJ-45 connector, in addition there is a WiFi with Bluetooth 4.0 support for wireless networking.

DVD burner and 7-in-1 media card reader are installed for transferring data locally to and from the system.

Other important features and benefits

Keyboard and mouse are included in the purchase, monitor is obviously not.

Operating system is Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, the one that many still consider the best OS. Keep in mind you can still upgrade free to Windows 10 until July 29, 2016.

HP Envy 750-175se DT is a true gamer’s & power user’s choice. It can run any software now and in the future, things like Adobe Illustrator, video editors and full programming environments are going to be a piece of cake. Games are also going to play great, you can use high settings and get smooth FPS. The connections are plenty with USB 3.0, many video outputs and WiFi included. At the current price, the desktop is alright value for money, and I think a demanding user would be happy with it!
