Is it a fancy-looking desktop you desire? How about HP ENVY 750-110, a silver gray desktop with fast enough components inside to make a professional happy? The processor is a quad-core AMD, memory amount is 8 gigabytes and hard drive is humongous 2TB. Impressive for sure, but how about the desktop’s drawbacks…?
In the specifications, it’s said the processor is AMD A10-8750. It’s indeed a quad-core model, offering a 3.6GHz clock speed with a high 4GHz turbo. It seems to be quite a heavyweight chip – there are no benchmarks available, but I’d expect it to have similar performance than faster Core i5s from the Intel side. Feel free to use it for most activities, even heavier types like programming or graphics editing, these processors are good for that.
For memory, the desktop has one 8GB DDR3-1600 stick. It’s plenty if you ask me, but there is also a free slot so the maximum RAM is 16GB here.
The 2TB 7200RPM hard drive is big, very big, you will never run into storage issues. However, you might want to complement such a drive with SSD. I don’t think there are M.2 slots inside, but the motherboard has three SATA connectors (two free) and inside the computer case there are unoccupied bays for a couple of 3.5″ drives.
If you want to use this desktop for gaming you’d better stick to older games or lower settings. There’s an integrated Radeon R7 responsible for the graphics section, I’m sure it will run even GTA 5 but in exchange you’ll need to use medium settings to get 25-30 frames per second. Other popular yet lightweight games, such as Sims 4 or Counter-Strike: GO will however have better frame rates.
Ports and connections
The desktop rear has four USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 connectors for various devices. Also a full-sized HDMI-out and VGA ports are there, you will use them to hook up a monitor (or HDTV) to this HP. Dual display setup works too. The Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 port can be used for wired Internet connection.
Front/top panel offers two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 connectors. There’s also ultra slim DVD burner and 7-in-1 media card reader available.
The desktop sports a built-in WiFi card, it works with 2×2 802.11ac standard and Bluetooth 4.0.
As usually, no monitor is included in this package. USB keyboard and optical mouse however are.
The unit can be upgraded. In addition to the previously mentioned 3.5″ drives you can put in PCI-E x1 or x16 card. So installing a dedicated graphics card is possible, just make sure the 300W power supply can support it.
Windows 10 Home, the 64-bit edition, is pre-loaded on this system.
Summing it up
Considering the lowish price, HP ENVY 750-110 is a pretty good power user oriented desktop. It runs even the most demanding programs without breaking a sweat, although gaming performance is quite limited (unless you add a dedicated graphics engine which is possible, that is). For the neat design I must give plus points, also A/C WiFi and USB 3.0 ports in the front are useful things to have.
