It might be that affordable All-in-One desktop is all a person needs: everything essential to get you started with is included, you just plug the computer in and all is good. Such should be the case with this well-selling HP 22-b016, but let’s not judge the computer too hastily…
Performance in general
The heart of this desktop is Intel Pentium J3710, a processor with four cores and 1.6GHz clock frequency (which goes up to 2.6Ghz with turbo). It’s a low energy processor which draws very little power, but the flipside is not-too-great performance. That said, you can use the desktop for most things, but I’d definitely get a beefier model for video editing.
The system by default has 4GB memory (DDR3L 1600Mhz). If you are not content with it, you can upgrade to 8GB. One memory slot on the mainboard is free.
Quite non-interesting hard drive is included, a typical 1TB 7200RPM model. The advantage is huge space, it can hold like two hundred thousands of JPEG-quality images. You can get better performance with SSD and to install that you’ll need to take out the current HDD first.
Works for gaming?
Due to integrated graphics, HP 22-b016 isn’t really a player’s choice. Intel HD 405, a small chip in the Pentium processor, is running the graphics and it doesn’t do the job well as far as games are concerned. Surely low-demanding ones like CS: Go and Minecraft work on low to medium settings, but the games with plenty of sweet graphics like GTA 5 and Battlefield 4 are not playable on this.
Ports and connections
In total four USB ports are included, two are USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0. Available is HDMI-out as well, you can connect an extra display to that if you feel the need.
This HP offers RJ-45 port with Gigabit Ethernet transmission standards. Wireless can be used as well, integrated single-band bgn WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 adapter is installed.
The desktop has a jack for headphones and microphone. Built-in monitors are there as well.
Of course, All-in-One desktop like this features a DVD burner. Likewise memory card reader is installed, it eats SD, SDHC and SDXC cards.
Miscellaneous things and features
HP 22-b016 has alright 21.5 inches monitor. On this particular model it doesn’t support touch (however there are version where touch is indeed included). The screen should be non-glare and the maximum resolution is 1920×1080. There’s also a web camera in the top bezel.
Wired keyboard and mouse are shipped with this unit.
Summing it up
I’m not going to call HP 22-b016 a very fast computer because it’s not one. Rather, it has Pentium processor and 4GB RAM sufficient to run the most common software, like web browser and text editing no problems. Some more demanding programs such as Photoshop work too, although for everyday heavy use I recommend a model tad faster. As it’s quite affordable given what you’re getting, the HP as it is offers good value!
