Spending a lot of money on a laptop might make sense if you want the best performance, quality and durability in the same package. Something like Dell XPS9360-4841SLV would be this kind of a notebook, satisfying power users with its Core i7 processor and solid-state drive. But the question arises, does it really make sense to buy so pricey laptop after all…
The 256GB solid-state drive means you will never have to worry about the storage performance: such a drive is fast, booting the notebook up in a matter of seconds. The motherboard supports M.2 SATA 3 and PCIe interfaces, this is important if you for some reason want to upgrade the drive.
Dell XPS9360-4841SLV has got it down also in the processor department. The latest Intel Core i7-7500U is running the show, it being a 7th generation dual-core processor with 2.7 – 3.5GHz clock speed. It’s much faster than the older model i7-6500U, the predecessor gets around 4300 points in CPU Mark while the i7-7500U gets around 5400. The jump is huge, and you can surely use this processor for any kind of software you can think of.
The 8GB DDR3L (1866MHz speed) memory is alright, just keep in mind it’s soldered on board and thus can’t be upgraded.
Is it a good gaming laptop?
Unfortunately, Dell XPS9360-4841SLV can’t be praised for its gaming performance. It’s an ultrabook, the inside doesn’t have space for a dedicated graphics card. Hence, the solution is Intel HD 620, a processor-integrated chip. It’s of course good for older games like Sims 4, Diablo 3 or Dota 2, but so-called Triple A games are a different story. GTA 5 somewhat works (~30FPS) on low settings but The Witcher 3 has too low FPS (~15FPS) to run.
Ports and connections
The funny thing is, the only ports for peripherals on Dell XPS9360-4841SLV are one USB Type-C and two USB 3.0 ports. No video outputs are available, but the reason is the USB Type-C which accepts, for example, HDMI and ThunderBolt devices with a special cable. This USB port is the modern trend because it supports so many formats – you just need one port, not many connectors like in the past.
The notebook has a fast 2×2 802.11ac WiFi + Bluetooth 4.1 card for networking. There’s no RJ-45 port included, but the USB to RJ-45 adapters exists if you want the “wired” Internet connection.
Such a small laptop does not have optical drive, but there’s media card reader for SD cards in case you have digital cameras etc.
Miscellaneous features and benefits
Dell XPS9360-4841SLV has a gorgeous display, its diagonal is 13.3 inches yet resolution extra high 3200 x 1800 – also known as Quad HD. Everything you watch on the screen will look sharp thanks to the resolution, but icons and such can also look small – lower the resolution in that case. It’s a touch screen, too, but the maximum operating angle is 135 degrees so working in tablet mode isn’t possible. Refresh rate is 60hz.
An integrated 4-cell 60Whr battery is what gives power for this laptop. The Quad HD screen might drain electricity fast, so I’d expect 6 hours operating time at most.
The 720p webcam is located below the screen, there’s no space for that in the top bezel.
Backlit keyboard is available.
Most of the best computer things are present in Dell XPS9360-4841SLV: a speedy processor for software, solid-state drive for storage and a very sharp screen for digital artists. In addition, the ultrabook is also very traveling friendly, on-the-go people would like the 2.7 pounds weight. All in all, if you’re a person with deep pockets and want a top-notch compact laptop, take a closer look at this stylish ultrabook.
