If you’re looking for a computer that is assembled for you, something like Dell XPS8910-9020BLK might be a good pick. Granted, the computer is not the cheapest one there is, performance is darn high. Or what do you say about about the Core i7 processor and 16GB RAM in it? It shouldn’t be a laggy desktop, but we need to take a closer look before conclusions can be drawn.

General performance

Intel Core i7-6700 is one of the fastest desktop processors to date (CPU Mark score around ~10000). It runs on four cores and already the base frequency is solid 3.4GHz with turbo taking the clock speed to 4.0GHz. With 65W TDP – thermal design power – the i7-6700 is not an energy efficient model however for desktops it doesn’t really matter. Suitability for software heavyweight and light is guaranteed.

Memory amount is excellent 16GB (one DDR4 2133MHz stick). Like most desktops also Dell XPS8910-9020BLK has four memory slots on the motherboard. Thus, the maximum RAM is 64 gigabytes.

The default storage drive is a 2 terabytes 7200RPM hard drive, using the SATA 3 interface. With such an HDD you will never run out of space, that is pretty certain. But if you want better performance you may put in a solid-state drive. The specifications say there is one M.2 slot free so installing SSD to that is possible. Also two unused 3.5″ bays reside in the case, so putting drives to them is possible as well.

Is it good deal for gaming?

Dell XPS8910-9020BLK contains a dedicated video card called GeForce GTX 750Ti with 2GB GDDR5 memory. It’s a lot faster than any integrated chip but still not in the same league than GTX 960, not even the GTX 760. So it’s a low end dedicated graphics card, yet still very suitable for Full HD gaming. For example, using high settings Battlefield 4 and Crysis 3 would run at ~50FPS. You can upgrade the card if you wish, just remember SLI is not supported here.

Guess how many USB ports does Dell XPS8910-9020BLK have? Eleven! Two of them are USB 2.0, seven USB 3.0, plus USB 3.1 Type A and C ports. You will definitely find connectors for all your devices here.

The graphics card seems to have two DVI and one HDMI port, so connecting three monitors at the same time is possible.

Getting Internet connectivity should be effortless as there are Gigabit RJ-45 port and WiFi card (802.11ac with Bluetooth 4.0) waiting for you.

DVD burner is naturally included. The desktop also sports a media card reader (SD, SDHC and SDXC supported).

Anything else?

This Dell comes with a 460 watt power supply.

The operating system is Windows 10 Home (64-bit).

Wired keyboard and mouse are included, however display is not.

To put it very simply, Dell XPS8910-9020BLK is a heavy-duty desktop. It has powerful components all over the engine room: i7 processor and huge hard drive, also the dedicated GTX 750 making gaming a real possibility here. Ports selection is also pristine with USB 3.1 Type-C port and support for multiple monitors. The model surely is pricey but if you have a knack for powerful desktops I’d say this Dell is a good choice for you.
