Who would pay over a grand for desktop unit? Well, a person who demands plenty of performance and doesn’t want to build his own rig! In this case, choosing something like Dell XPS8910-23420BLK comes into question. It seems to be a well-rounded desktop computer with top-notch core components and dedicated GeForce graphics card installed. Read on to see whether I recommend it or not…
Let’s just say the performance for software is superior. You can use Dell XPS8910-23420BLK for simple stuff like web browsing, but its strengths really come into play with heavier programs like image editors – they will run smooth. A big thanks for this goes to the Intel Core i7-6700K which, with its four cores, 4.0GHz clock speed and 4.2GHz turbo is pretty much the fastest processor you can currently get. CPU Mark score is around 11000, do you know any other units that get a better score?
The memory at 24GB (DDR4 2133MHz) couldn’t get any better. Actually, it’s quite an overkill for many since usually 8GB is enough RAM. Anyway, here you will get many times that. Thanks to four DIMM slots on the motherboard the maximum memory is 64GB.
The storage drives are two in this unit. One is 2TB 7200RPM hard drive. You can put so many files there it’s hard to count it, for example around 400000 JPEG images. The other drive, probably the more interesting one, is the 256GB M.2 solid-state drive. To that you can install games and other programs/files you access frequently, they will be loaded fast. In case you want to install more drives there are two free 3.5″ bays inside.
Great for gaming?
Yep, Dell XPS8910-23420BLK is pretty solid for all the gamers out there. It’s the GeForce GTX 960 with 2GB GDDR5 memory that is running the graphics show, and of course it’s in completely different league than integrated engines. You can play with 1920×1080 settings and high/ultra settings pretty much any game. Some examples include Battlefield 4 and Crysis 3 at ~50FPS. If this isn’t enough for some reason, you can upgrade the card – GTX 1060 and the like fit in this desktop. Just remember just one PCI-e x16 slot is there, no SLI supported.
Ports and connections
Dell XPS8910-23420BLK has a wide selection of ports. In fact, there’s a whopping 11 USB ports available. Two are USB 2.0, seven USB 3.0 and then one USB 3.1 Type-A and Type-C that support many standards.
The graphics card holds DVI and HDMI ports, and you may hook up in total three monitors at the same time.
As you might guess a desktop of this caliber has great networking interfaces: a built-in 1000Mbps Ethernet circuit (RJ-45 port) and 802.11ac WiFi card with Bluetooth 4.0 available.
As a specialty, there’s a BluRay drive as the optical drive. Just remember it only reads BluRay while writing options are available for CD and DVD. The desktop also features a multi-format media card reader.
A nice thing, the operating system is Windows 10 Pro (64-bit). Yep, the Professional version, not the usual Home.
Monitor isn’t unfortunately included – wired keyboard and mouse are.
As far as I know the power supply is rated at 460W.
Dell XPS8910-23420BLK is one hell of a machine, catering to the needs of power users and professionals. Thanks to the beefy Core i7 processor, 24GB RAM and solid-state drive everything will be smooth as a silk here. Even Full HD gaming is realistic because they included GeForce GTX960 in this desktop. If you have the financial means and need for real power, you can’t go wrong with this Dell.
