What is the most obvious thing about Dell XPS XPS9350-5341SLV? Well, it’s a very expensive model! Two-three times of your regular laptop. So you can also expect a lot from this computer, right? Well, it seems to include a set of heavyweight components: Core i7 processor, solid-state drive and a Quad HD display. Whether the notebook is actually useful or not will be discussed below!
One can’t help noticing the massive performance of Dell XPS XPS9350-5341SLV. To start with, it has Intel Core i7-6560U processor – a 2016 model – with a dual-core configuration, a 2.2GHz base frequency and 3.2GHz turbo speed. CPU Mark score is around 4800. That is enough even for some heavier work, like programming or digital artists (Photoshop etc). Also the memory amount is solid – 8GB – however keep in mind it’s soldered on the mainboard and can not be upgraded.
Storage drive is one of the best things as well, it’s a real M.2 (PCIe) 256GB solid-state drive. If you don’t like it for some reason, you can replace it if you have some technical skills.
At first, you might think Dell XPS XPS9350-5341SLV sucks at gaming. There’s just an integrated graphics (Intel Iris 540) available which can’t be good, right? Well, it’s faster than all the previous integrated engines in the Intel HD series. You’ll be able to play many games, although be prepared to use lower settings on the latest ones. For example, you could expect around 30FPS on GTA 5 played with low details and 1366×768.
Ports and connections
Dell XPS XPS9350-5341SLV offers you three USB ports – two are USB 3.0 and one is USB Type-C port. Bear in mind there are no dedicated video outputs like HDMI, so you need to get USB Type-C to HDMI adapter if you want to plug in monitor, such as HDTV, here.
There is an excellent 802.11ac dual-band WiFi + Bluetooth 4.1 adapter for networking. RJ-45 port isn’t available, but you can fix that with USB adapter.
Optical drive is not included in such a small notebook, external one can always be used. SD card slot is there, you can upload photos from digital cameras with that.
The webcam (1280×720 video resolution) is located on the bottom left hand side of the screen, not an ideal place. Your typing hands might partially block the view.
Other important features
The screen’s excellent in Dell XPS XPS9350-5341SLV, the 13.3″ display takes almost all space on the upper part, leaving just little for the bezel. The resolution is 3200×1800 – it’s good for things like video and image editing, however a casual user might want to use something like 1920×1080 so text will not look too tiny. Touch is supported, as well.
The battery, a 4-cell 56Whr one, will last for around 7 hours (web surfing) on a single charge. That’s a decent duration for an ultrabook.
The keyboard features backlight.
Summing it up
Dell XPS XPS9350-5341SLV certainly is one of the most expensive laptops out there, but it doesn’t really matter if you can appreciate all it offers. The unit itself is an ultrabook with 13.3″ QHD screen that spans from one side to another – there’s just a thin screen bezel, so no wasted inches. In the engine room you will find Core i7 processor and SSD churning, my guess is that hardly anyone can bring this system on its knees. One exception is gaming: there is no dedicated graphics card so you will need to be careful with the level of eye candy. Otherwise, the laptop is perfect for heavy duty use – get it if you have the money and need for a real powerhouse!
