A powerful desktop is a power user’s dream they say. Indeed, something like Dell XPS x8900-7319BLK should make such a demanding person happy: Core i7 processor, 24GB RAM and a dual storage drives are found inside. So all is excellent performance-wise, but don’t forget this unit also costs an arm and leg. So, below is my take on this desktop…
This computer is full of components that make a power user drool. Starting with the processor, it’s the Intel Core i7-6700K, a beast with around 11000 CPU Mark points (just a couple of processors get more than that). There are four cores in this chip and the base clock speed is 4.0GHz – the turbo aids it a little to 4.2GHz. You will find the desktop very fast to use and big thanks for that goes to the processor.
It’s a huge amount of RAM you will get. Dell XPS x8900-7319BLK has 24GB of that installed, the DDR4 type. The specifications say 64GB is the maximum memory, four SODIMM slots are available on the mainboard.
The storage section is golden, there is a two gigabytes hard drive (7200RPM) and a 256GB solid-state drive (M.2) installed. This offers, on one hand, all the storage space you could imagine and on the other hand, quick performance due to SSD – also Windows is installed on that. In addition, you can put in two more drives inside because two 3.5″ bays are unused.
What games does it run?
Thanks to the dedicated GeForce GTX960 (2GB GDDR5) you will find that any game will run on Dell XPS x8900-7319BLK. You can realistically use it for Full HD gaming (high/ultra settings), and some examples include Battlefield 4 and Crysis 3 that run on ~50FPS. If you want a beefier card be my guest, even GTX 1060 will fit inside. Just remember you probably need a better PSU for those as the current one is just 460W.
Ports and connections
Dell XPS x8900-7319BLK has many, many USB ports – ten in total. Four of them are USB 2.0 and six USB 3.0. That’s plenty for anybody, I don’t think you will ever use all of them at once.
The video card hosts VGA, HDMI and DVI outputs. That means three monitors can be simultaneously connected to this desktop.
You will find two ways to connect this thing to Internet: either the Gigabit RJ-45 port in the back panel or then the built-in WiFi adapter (dual-band AC) with support for Bluetooth 4.0.
As a specialty, the desktop comes with a Blu-Ray burner (DVDs and CDs can be burned too). Media card reader is also there, supporting a whopping 19 different formats.
Like with any such a desktop, this one doesn’t include a monitor. However, keyboard and mouse are shipped with it.
Operating system is Windows 10 Pro (64-bit). Yep, not the Home version!
Dell XPS x8900-7319BLK is a well-rounded power desktop of heavy performance which includes gaming. Truly, this computer will run any program you can imagine, such as image editors from Adobe family or some exotic programming environments. And thanks to the dedicated GTX 960 also Full HD gaming will be possible. All in all, it offers decent value for the money so if you got the dough, go for this Dell!
