Let me tell you the essential things about Dell Inspiron i5759-5306SLV laptop: a big Full HD screen, quite a powerful Core i5 processor and plenty of RAM. A package that would probably satisfy many home and office users. But I can also see some flaws, or at least disadvantages in this computer. Below, you will find my professional opinion on the system!

What is it good for?

Dell Inspiron i5759-5306SLV is a proper workhorse for folks that appreciate decent performance. Its processor is Intel Core i5-6200U, a mainstream dual-core laptop unit with 2.3GHz clock speed that increases to 2.8GHz with the help of turbo. CPU Mark score is around 3900, not bad for a notebook (not the best either), but throwing most software at this rig shouldn’t cause problems. Also the 8GB RAM will help you with programs running smoothly – there is one free slot, so you can even upgrade that to 16GB.

The notebook has a big 17.3 inches display, so we’re talking about desktop replacement model here. Furthermore, resolution is 1920×1080 which is, if you ask me, the only acceptable resolution for a 17-inch screen. Touch is also supported here. The screen bezel includes a webcam, supporting 1280×720 video resolution.

The keyboard features backlight.

Storage section could be better, now you’re only getting 1TB 5400RPM hard drive (hooked to SATA 3 interface). It surely offers all the storage space in the world, however performance won’t be that good. Luckily you can do something to fix this: remove the hard drive and put a solid-state drive in place, and the problem is fixed!

You’ll reach around 5 hours battery life on Dell Inspiron i5759-5306SLV, that’s quite alright, however don’t forget the 4-cell 40Whr battery is an integrated one. So, to change it, you need to remove the whole laptop bottom.

Ports are nothing fancy here: two USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0 for peripherals; also HDMI-out for hooking up a monitor. For Internet, you can use the 100Mbps Ethernet RJ-45 adapter or the built-in WiFi (802.11ac dual-band + Bluetooth) card which is probably your preferred way.

Optical drive (DVD burner) and memory card reader (SD) are included, moving data to and from the laptop should not be a problem.

What is it bad for?

The only thing Dell Inspiron i5759-5306SLV is not really suitable for is (serious) gaming. As it includes only integrated graphics Intel HD 520, frame rates are going to be far from great. A real life example, GTA 5 will run at 25-30FPS on normal (low) settings and 720p resolution. Not ideal but quite playable for sure. A better-running example would be Counter-Strike: Go which reaches higher FPS even with much eye candy on, including Full HD.

Verdict

It is someone who is seeking for a capable desktop replacement that would enjoy Dell Inspiron i5759-5306SLV. First, it’s a big laptop – the 17.3″ screen is spacious (however not as big as a true desktop monitor). Second, performance is close to a desktop with Core i5 processor and 8GB memory: pretty much all the programs one can think of will work here. However, what will not work so well are games: this unit comes without dedicated graphics card. That’s a bummer for players, but if you don’t like to play games I think this Dell offers good value for you – do take a closer look at it!
