It’s a good idea to buy a brand computer, especially All-in-One, if you value ease of use and setup over cutting edge performance. Desktops like Dell Inspiron i5459-4020SLV come with all necessary things to get you started: the system unit is built into the backside of monitor, and keyboard and mouse are included too. But let’s not judge the notebook just yet, a closer look must be first taken…

Main components under the hood

Dell Inspiron i5459-4020SLV has a quad-core processor, the Intel Core i5-6400T from the end of 2015. It has a clock speed of 2.2GHz and turbo of 2.8GHz, pretty decent frequencies. The unit receives a CPU Mark score around 5400 which I consider high-end for All-in-One, and if we’re talking about the processor here, lag should not occur on this desktop.

Solid memory is offered, 8GB of DDR3 low voltage 1600MHz type. Two 4GB sticks are inside which occupy both memory slots on mainboard. Most RAM you can put here is 16GB, it should definitely suffice for anybody.

The weakest link is probably the hard drive, there’s just the old-school 1TB 5400RPM (2.5″ SATA 3) spinning disk drive installed. For storage it’s all you need but performance is not the same than with solid-state drives. Should you have adequate hardware skills you can of course upgrade this drive to SSD.

How’s the desktop for gaming?

Dell Inspiron i5459-4020SLV suffers from poor graphics performance, that’s because it does not have a graphics card running on a dedicated memory. Instead, it relies on an integrated Intel HD 530. You’ll have hard times playing games like GTA and Far Cry 4, frame rates will be 25-30 with minimum eye candy and resolution on. But if your game is easy on graphics (or older), such as Diablo 3, Minecraft or Sims 4, you will have smooth frame rates.

What ports and connections are available?

The total amount of USB ports in Dell Inspiron i5459-4020SLV is six, so many USB devices you can connect to the computer at the same time. Four of the ports are USB 2.0 and two are USB 3.0.

There are two video ports in the computer: HDMI output and HDMI input. Thus, you can connect a second monitor (or TV) to the desktop’s HDMI-out, or use the desktop’s own monitor with a HDMI-supporting device such as gaming console.

Networking facilities include a Gigabit RJ-45 port and a dual-band WiFi card which supports 802.11ac and also Bluetooth 4.0.

You will find a DVD burner on the desktop as well as a SD/SDXC/SDHC/MMC card reader.

Other important things and features

So, you also get a display with this Dell. It’s a 24 inches touch screen and supports 1920×1080 resolution. The display has anti-glare (matte) coating with IPS panel type – you should get viewing angles closer to 180 degrees. There is a web camera on top, it supports 720p at 30FPS video.

Wireless keyboard and mouse are included as well.

This desktop does not run on battery, it needs to be plugged in at all times when it’s used.

Dell Inspiron i5459-4020SLV is quite a well-priced item considering you get a Core i5 processor, 24 inches Full HD screen and input devices in the same package. The performance is easily adequate for text and multimedia use, and even some more advanced software like Adobe image editors will run here. Hardcore gaming can’t be done due to integrated graphics, but otherwise it’s a pretty solid All-in-One for day-to-day computing!
