Buying a desktop can be serious business, at least in the case you want the perfect one. So I assume you’ve checked out the Dell Inspiron i3650-3133SLV and wonder if it’s a great choice. On one hand, yes: it has rather powerful components so programs shouldn’t lag. But is there anything wrong with it? Read below to find out!

Overall performance is quite high in Dell Inspiron i3650-3133SLV. Its “engine”, the Intel Core i5-6400 processor, offers you a powerful quad-core setup with 2.7GHz clock speed and 3.3GHz turbo. That gives a hint what you can expect; and indeed this is backed up by the fact that CPU Mark gives the unit a high 6500 score. Hence, it’s suitable for general as well as for power users. Also the memory amount suggests so: there is 8GB RAM on a single stick, and another slot is free for upgrading to 16GB.

Not exactly a good or bad thing, the computer has one terabyte 7200RPM SATA 3 hard drive for storage. It’s a huge one but suffers from poor transfer rates (performance) compared to SSDs. But you can always install solid-state drive here, although the specifications say there are no extra slots so you’d need to remove the current HDD first.

For an affordable desktop, Dell Inspiron i3650-3133SLV has rather good gaming performance. See, it has this GeForce GT 730 graphics card installed with 2GB dedicated GDDR3 memory. Granted, it’s a low-end card, but you can still play games like GTA 5 on high settings (1366×768 resolution) and get ~30 frames per second. And of course, if you have extra money and will, nothing is stopping you from upgrading the card, the motherboard has PCI-e x16 slot.

Ports and connections

The selection of ports in Dell Inspiron i3650-3133SLV is pretty standard. There are in total six USB ports; of those, four are USB 2.0 and two are USB 3.0. Those accept devices like printers, keyboard, mouse and external drives. Video outputs are HDMI-out and VGA, two displays at the same time should be supported.

Video ports in the back include microphone, line-in and line-out.

Naturally, the unit comes with a DVD burner so using discs (CD and DVD, that is) won’t be a problem. There’s also a media card reader in the machine, you can use SD(XC/HC) and MMC(+) cards with that.

1000Mbps RJ-45 Ethernet controller and a basic 802.11bgn WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 adapter are at your disposal for networking.

Other important things

No monitor is included, but keyboard and mouse are. Operating system is pre-installed Windows 10 Home (64-bit).

Dell Inspiron i3650-3133SLV is quite a good all-around computer. First, it plows through any programs you might use – the Core i5 processor makes sure things will run smooth and clean. Second, the dedicated GeForce graphics card allows you to play games even with some eye candy on – say goodbye to those slower-than-snail integrated engines! Indeed, the Dell seems to be one of the better computers in 2016. If you’re after a solid desktop, you can’t go wrong with this one.
