Who wouldn’t want to buy an inexpensive laptop if you need money for more urgent things as well. Well, paying only a little for notebook makes sense if you’re a home user. You will get a basic computer such as Dell Inspiron i3552-4041BLK. It might or might not be enough for you… Let me help you in deciding!

The good

Dell Inspiron i3552-4041BLK is about very entry level performance, so it’s good for running any web browser, including its applications such as YouTube and other videos. Skype would also run as well as programs from the MS Office family. Speaking about the technical side, there is Intel Celeron N3050 processor (2 cores, 1.6GHz clock speed, 2.2GHz turbo) running the show which gets only ~900 points in CPU Mark. That’s a very low score indeed, so don’t try to run much fancier programs than those listed above!

Continuing about performance, there is 4GB memory installed which is sufficient for lightweight use. There is only one memory slot on the mainboard all in all, and specifications say 4GB is the maximum memory here.

The 4-cell 40Whr battery is of removable type, that’s a good thing. On a single charge you should expect around 5 hours when browsing the web.

The neutral

What is also sufficient for casual users is the included hard drive, however the 500GB 5400RPM (SATA 3) hard drive won’t earn any extra points, either. It’s rather slow and not very big. A knowledgeable person can always change the drive, and indeed swapping the HDD for SSD would be quite an inexpensive maneuver to up the performance of Dell Inspiron i3552-4041BLK big time.

There’s a basic 15.6″ non-touch display, it supports 1366×768 resolution – Full HD wouldn’t be expected for this price anyway. Viewing angles are up to 160 degrees from sides. A basic webcam (1280×720 video resolution) is embedded on top of the screen.

Ports and connections aren’t plenty, but remember it’s a budget laptop. Two USB 2.0 ports, one USB 3.0 and one HDMI-out are at your disposal. For wired networking there is no RJ-45 port (you can get USB adapter) but of course, a wireless card – 802.11bgn with Bluetooth 4.0 – is available.

The bad

Dell Inspiron i3552-4041BLK is outright bad for gaming. The processor is an entry-level one, and inside that is the biggest culprit, the integrated (and very slow!) Intel HD Graphics chip. Say goodbye to games like GTA 5 and Battlefield 4, their FPS will be too low no matter what settings you use. Some less-demanding games are playable, such as Minecraft, however don’t expect top FPS there, either.

This particular model doesn’t have DVD burner – in case you want to use discs, get an external USB-connecting DVD drive. You might also find the internal SD card slot useful in some cases (transfer photos from cameras, for example).

Dell Inspiron i3552-4041BLK is one of the cheapest, but at the same time one of the slowest Windows 10 laptops there currently exists. You can browse the web, do MS Office work or even watch videos with this thing – all of that should be a smooth experience. However, what is missing is the heavyweight performance for power users and especially gamers. You can’t of course expect to get it all for such a good price, so if your requirements are not high, this Dell should be sufficient for you!
