All-in-One desktop can be a wonderful choice if you want convenience: everything, the system unit, monitor and input devices are included in the package. Such a computer is Dell Inspiron i3052-3600BLK, an AiO unit with Pentium-level processor and 4GB RAM. The price is very low, so let’s see what this inexpensive Dell can actually do for you…

What programs does it run?

Unsurprisingly, Dell Inspiron i3052-3600BLK runs many everyday software, including web browsers and their applications (like YouTube and Netflix) and office programs (MS Office, however it’s not included). You just need to keep in mind the Intel Pentium N3700 processor isn’t a very fast model, as it gets only ~1900 points in CPU Mark. It’s below mainstream mobile Core i3s that get around 2500 points. Anyway, the Pentium sports four cores for some multitasking capabilities and 1.6GHz clock speed with 2.4GHz turbo.

Other things that affect the performance are memory and hard drive. For the former, you’ll get 4GB low-voltage RAM installed. As I call it, 4GB is the minimum acceptable amount these days for smooth operations of aforementioned “basic” programs. One memory slot is available all in all, you can put a maximum 8GB stick there if you want.

For the hard drive, there’s really nothing special. A 500GB 5400RPM (SATA 3) model is available, it’s sufficient for home users not expecting too much. It can surely take a lot of files (like 100 DVD’s worth of data), but performance compared to solid-state drives is poor. If you care about that, you can always upgrade to SSD by removing the default HDD first.

Is it a reasonable choice for gamers?

Dell Inspiron i3052-3600BLK wouldn’t be an ideal choice for a gamer, reason for this is the processor-integrated graphics engine Intel HD. It’s simply too slow for the new games such as GTA 5, Battlefield 4 and The Witcher 3. That being said, you can still run older games if you turn eye candy down a bit. Those include types like Sims 4 and League of Legends. Remember that you can’t install a dedicated PCI-e x16 graphics card on this system.

What devices can be connected?

First, if you don’t like the included display, you don’t need to use it. Dell Inspiron i3052-3600BLK seems to have one HDMI-out so you can connect another monitor (like HD television) to that.

In addition, USB peripherals can be plugged in too. There are two USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 ports available. Those accept devices like printer and scanner. I guess two of the USB ports will be used anyway because of the included wired keyboard and mouse.

Audio ports include the standard headset port and audio line-out.

There are two ways to connect this computer to Internet: the 802.11bgn WiFi + Bluetooth 4.0 card or the built-in Gigabit LAN adapter with RJ-45 connector.

The computer has a tray-load DVD burner and 4-in-1 card reader (SD, SDXC, SDHC, MMC) for some local data transfers.

A front-facing webcam with 1280×720 video resolution is available.

Some other things to keep in mind?

The display has 19.5″ diagonal so it’s somewhat bigger than a laptop, but smaller than a dedicated PC display. The resolution is nothing but 1600×900, it suffices for casual users but I’m sure techies prefer 1920×1080 (Full HD). The screen supports touch.

Keep in mind this desktop needs to be connected to power socket at all times, it does not have a battery like laptop does.

The hard drive hosts a pre-installed Windows 10 Home (64-bit).

Final thoughts

Dell Inspiron i3052-3600BLK is a typical All-in-One: affordable, simple and low performance. It does run all typical programs without issues, including YouTube videos and applications from the MS Office family. You can also play basic installable games, such as Minecraft and Sims 4, here. Simply put, the Dell should be a sufficient general use desktop. If that’s what you’re after, there’s no reason to skip this inexpensive model!
