Dell Inspiron i3000-101SLV is a low-cost convertible notebook. It seems to be suitable for daily tasks, but I can also see some disadvantages that could be hard to spot. So let me tell you more about the good sides and shortcomings of this little laptop…

The processing power is quite low. The dual-core Intel Celeron N3050 offers a 1.6GHz clock speed and 2.0GHz turbo – this results in only ~800 points in CPU Mark. That is far, far inferior to any processor, as an example 1-2 year old Core i3s already reached around 2500 points. For lightweight applications the Celeron is certainly good, but heavy software is too much for it.

The low RAM amount makes sure multitasking will be tough. 2GB DDR3 RAM is included, you can increase that to 4GB according to specifications (just one memory slot in the mainboard all in all). Storage is brought by a 32GB embedded MultiMediaCard, a slower version of solid-state drive. It will leave you a bit over 20GB after Windows installation files.

As a side note, this Dell is bad for gaming. There’s just Intel HD integrated engine for graphics rendering. Top AAA titles are not playable here, however some games such as League of Legends, CS: Go and browser-based ones will work.

Connections and ports

Dell Inspiron i3000-101SLV is a compact package yet it has three USB ports crammed in it. One of those is USB 2.0, two are USB 3.0. You will also find HDMI-output there, with that you can use the laptop through HD television.

The notebook can’t be used to work with DVDs unless you get an external optical drive. However media cards can be accessed, there’s SD card slot for that.

A WiFi b/g/n adapter is available, it supports Bluetooth, too. For Internet connection with cable you must get USB to RJ-45 adapter.

The webcam features 1280×720 video resolution, you can use that for Skype meetings or snapping a photo or two.

Other important things

Bear in mind the 11.6″ touchscreen turns from laptop into a flat tablet whenever you want. Resolution is just 1366×768 however panel type is IPS, often regarded better for colors and viewing angles than regular TN panels.

The keyboard doesn’t have backlit feature.

The unit weighs 3.1 pounds, typical for these smaller convertible models. The battery (43Whr 3-cell) life should be at least 5 hours. Battery is integrated, replacing it will take some effort.

Summing it up

Dell Inspiron i3000-101SLV is a good laptop for lightweight, on-the-go computing. You won’t have any problems running a web browser or MS Office here, but it’s not a good idea to get this for any heavier use. The screen, thanks to the IPS panel type and according to user reports, should be high quality. Battery life is very decent with more than five hours. If you don’t demand great system performance, this Dell should be all you need.
