The ad copy says that Dell i5368-0502GRY is 100% good, so it must be true, right? Obviously not. In this review, I’ll tell you about its disadvantages (yes, it has them too!) so you’ll know whether this laptop is the right choice for you.
Out of the big three (CPU, RAM, storage), the processor is the best thing in Dell i5368-0502GRY. It’s Intel Core i3-6100U which belongs to the 6th generation line and offers 2.3GHz clock speed (no turbo) and two cores. There are many things you can do with it, ranging from basic web browsing to occasional photo editing – the CPU Mark score (a popular benchmark) is ~3500. The memory is also acceptable 4GB, however keep in mind there is one slot free with the maximum memory being 16GB.
This computer has a nice 13.3 inch touch screen. I say so because of the 1080p resolution and hinge that rotates 360 degrees. You can fit a lot of stuff on the display thanks to the Full HD resolution, and the unit will also double as a tablet. A webcam is found on top of the display, it offers 720p video resolution for you.
In my opinion, SSD is the right storage choice for a portable 2-in-1 laptop. Sadly, in Dell i5368-0502GRY, there is just a 500GB 5400RPM hard drive. You know, old school drive with spinning parts. Being slower than SSDs it might bother some power users. Well, feel free to install a solid-state drive yourself if you know how to.
You will find a basic battery inside, the specs being 4 cells and 56Whr. It’s not said anywhere how long it lasts, but the best guess is 5-6 hours. Dim the screen if you want better battery life.
This unit has three USB ports in total, two of them are USB 3.0 while one is USB 2.0. Another port is HDMI-out which is used for an external monitor. You won’t find RJ-45 port but please use the excellent WiFi card (802.11ac + Bluetooth) for networking.
As the spec list says, optical drive is not included. However there is SD card slot, that you can utilize with digital cameras and such for multimedia uploads.
The baddest thing about Dell i5368-0502GRY would be the gaming performance. Almost needless to say, this kind of a machine doesn’t have a dedicated graphics card, only a low-end unit that is integrated on the processor (the Intel HD 520). It is not problematic for older games, such as those that run on the browser or Sims or sports games. But try running newer titles and you see how it is. Types like GTA 5 and Fallout 4 would get poor 20-30FPS even when using low settings.
Bad for some people, this laptop doesn’t have backlit keyboard.
Dell i5368-0502GRY possesses a couple of strong points. First, it has a 6th generation i3 processor, quite a powerful unit ready for heavier tasks. Second, the screen supports Full HD which is something power users always like. Of course, you can not utilize the 1080p with games since gaming performance is sub-par. Another thing you should watch for is the hard drive – SSD would make a better companion for these 2-in-1 models. Anyway, for the price one can not demand everything – get this Dell if a decent convertible is something that tickles your fancy!
