Welcome to the world of Dell i3169-0010BLU, a 2-in-1 laptop powered by a dual-core Intel processor. Such a package can be real multifunctional tool (laptop and tablet in one), but is there enough performance in it, and what are the drawbacks of this system? My professional opinion can be found below!
Talking about performance
Dell i3169-0010BLU is equipped with Intel Core m3-6Y30, a mobile dual-core processor of considerably low 0.9GHz clock speed. You might think what the heck, but there’s also turbo boost that will increase the clock speed to 2.2Ghz when need arises. Overall, the processor is very decent for such a low-cost hybrid laptop: it reaches ~3000 points in CPU Mark test (more than some older Core i3s). Couple that with the 4GB RAM (maxed out already) and you easily have enough performance for playing YouTube videos and editing MS Office.
There’s an uninspiring 500GB 5400RPM SATA 3 hard drive installed. In my opinion, an SSD is better for laptops because they are more durable (no moving parts). Anyway, you can remove the hard drive and install solid-state drive yourself.
Would games work?
A dedicated graphics card is what gamers need and there’s none in Dell i3169-0010BLU – which is not a surprise. The Intel HD 515 chip will take care of the graphics, and let me tell you, it’s an integrated (= quite slow) chip indeed. On this computer, you can expect ~25FPS on games like GTA 5 when settings are low. In another words, it’s playable for many but not too enjoyable. That said, if you’re into older games frame rates will be better, CS: Go for example getting +35FPS on high settings.
Wanting to connect HD television to this little laptop? Not a problem, HDMI-output is found on the side of Dell i3169-0010BLU. And if you’re looking to hook up a printer there are USB connectors at your disposal – one USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 to be precise.
The notebook doesn’t offer RJ-45 port for networking but a WiFi adapter is installed for that (supports 802.11n standard and Bluetooth 4.0).
Micro SD card slot is present, meaning you can slip in memory cards and transfer data that way – for example from digital cameras. There is no DVD burner but an external one can always be used.
Other relevant things and features
Oh yes, the display. Don’t forget the 11.6-inch touch screen has the 360 degree hinge, which means you can rotate it from laptop to tablet mode. About the more technical stuff, you’ll get 1366×768 maximum resolution which is just fine for this display size. A 720p webcam can be found in the top center position.
The 2-cell 32Whr battery is integrated so you can’t replace it without taking the laptop apart. Operating time should be decent, more than 6 hours on a single charge.
No backlit keyboard is found on this device.
Considering the price and what components are inside, Dell i3169-0010BLU seems to offer decent price/performance ratio: it’s far from a powerhouse but as a low-cost system can easily tackle all writing and web surfing tasks you might have. People have also reported it’s rather easy to use, and the obvious laptop-tablet functionality is a plus for many. If you keep your expectations in check performance-wise, I think you would be only happy with this little Dell!
