One thing is for sure, Dell i3168-0028BLU is extremely affordable. And it also features 2-in-1 functionality, notebook and tablet in one unit. Well, this might sound very good, but let’s see if it’s actually too cheap to be the real deal…
I don’t want to lie and say the overall performance of Dell i3168-0028BLU is good. But it’s certainly enough for a home user without too demanding or exotic programs. Intel Celeron N3060 (two cores, 1.6GHz clock speed, 2.5Ghz turbo) is the processor inside and while it only gets ~1000 points in CPU Mark, for daily computing tasks it’s still sufficient.
The 11.6-inches display should be alright. It features the unexciting 1366×768 resolution which is however understandable because the diagonal is rather small. The screen rotates all the way 360 degrees so you can use this laptop in tablet mode as well. You’ll also find a webcam (720p video resolution) on the top bezel.
The memory amount in Dell i3168-0028BLU is quite poor. There’s just 2GB installed and it’s already capped, meaning you can’t install more. You might have some slowness if you keep dozens of browser tabs open – reduce the tabs (a.k.a. multitasking) and you’re good to go.
Don’t buy this Dell for gaming, it’s quite bad at that. Graphics are handled by the integrated Intel HD 400. New triple A titles are much, much out of its league – games like Far Cry 4 and GTA 5 won’t run here. You will have better luck with types like Sims 4 and Minecraft which should do fine, at least on low settings.
What else to keep in mind?
This is important: the 32GB SSD is not a real SSD, but an embedded MultiMediaCard. It’s not as fast as real solid-state drive and it’s much smaller, you only get ~20GB free space after Windows files. So if you’re looking for a huge data storage, perhaps some other model is better for you.
The battery isn’t too beefy (2 cells and 32Whr there) but the components of this laptop are quite lightweight as well. So, you should be able to get Dell i3168-0028BLU running for seven hours before you need to recharge it.
Two USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0 ports are included to plug in some devices. HDMI-out is there as well. No RJ-45 is found in the machine but you can get Internet access with the wireless adapter (802.11bgn support with Bluetooth 4.0).
DVD burner isn’t available but you might find the Micro SD card slot helpful.
The keyboard is not backlit here.
If you’re a home user, have no worries about Dell i3168-0028BLU. It offers just enough performance to run those YouTube videos and text editors fine. But if you’re a more demanding user, such as gamer, you better choose something else as this notebook is far from a heavy-duty unit. Anyway, it’s also a very light notebook (11.6 inches) so you shouldn’t have problems traveling with it or finding place in your bag. So if a budget convertible laptop interests you, don’t hesitate to check out this Dell!
