If you’ve been dreaming about a cheap desktop meant for gaming, here might be your chance: the CybertronPC Rhodium 950 X8. The desktop runs on heavy-duty AMD processor and more importantly, boasts a GeForce GTX950 card, so many gamers might grow to like this computer. But because the price is so affordable, there must be something wrong with the unit, right?

Gaming capabilities

The low price of CybertronPC Rhodium 950 X8 is indeed explained by the graphics card choice. The GeForce GTX 950 (with 2GB GDDR5 memory) is a mid-range chip, not really a top-of-the-line card like GTX 980 found in many premium gaming desktops. Well, this is not really stopping you from playing, for example Grand Theft Auto on high and 1080p will run at +60FPS. Another popular (and demanding!) game Fallout 4 on very high settings and 1080p gives +30FPS. So, there’s a lot of oomph, and I think that for the majority of players this graphics card is all good!

What about other important components?

The processor of CybertronPC Rhodium 950 X8 is called AMD FX-8300. It’s an eight-core CPU with 3.3GHz clock speed and 4.2GHz turbo. You can compare it to beefier models from Intel like the Core i7-4720HQ – this AMD gets around 7600 points in CPU Mark. Furthermore, the RAM is very sufficient 16GB (2x8GB sticks, maxed out). So, there’s plenty of power for every kind of software, ranging from web browsing to full video editing.

You’ll find a lot of storage space in this desktop, that is for sure. It’s provided by the 1TB (1024GB) hard drive with 7200RPM spindle speed. You can store all your games there, and if you want faster performance you can install an extra drive (SSD). There are free 3.5″ slots inside the case.

What ports and connections does the computer have?

Many USB ports are offered to plug in all your devices; in total three USB 3.0 and six USB 2.0 are found in the system. The video outputs are also plenty: two DVI, one HDMI and one DisplayPort. Hence, you can connect several monitors to CybertronPC Rhodium 950 X8 at the same time.

Networking includes a Gigabit RJ-45 port. No WiFi is available by default, but feel free to use a simple USB dongle or install PCI WiFi card inside – there is a free slot for that.

A DVD burner is included, but media card reader is not.

Miscellaneous things and features

The computer has a 500W power supply, you’ll find it sufficient if upgrading to better graphics like GTX 970 or GTX 980.

There are wired keyboard and mouse included (however you must buy monitor yourself).

Summing it up

I don’t see any reason to dislike CybertronPC Rhodium 950 X8. It’s a real gaming desktop, not as fast as its (much) more expensive counterparts, but still sufficient for serious gaming – including new titles like the mentioned Fallout 4. Due to high-performance components, it can also be used for heavy software work. Just remember WiFi is not included but you can fix that with USB adapter. All in all, if budget gaming is what you want, I can recommend this inexpensive desktop for you.
