It’s not always a bad idea to buy branded gaming desktop over a self-assembled one. Computers like CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8040A work in a plug’n’play fashion – you just connect them to a decent monitor and you’re ready to roll. Of course it sounds so convenient when put like this, but are there some reasons why you shouldn’t get this particular desktop…?
CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8040A has Radeon RX 480 which is AMD’s addition to the high-end graphics card market. In performance tests, it stands between GeForce GTX 970 and GTX 960 from the Nvidia side. Nonetheless, a great gaming experience for Full and Quad HD is present. Examples for this (2560×1440 resolution and ultra settings) include ~45 frames per second on Triple A games like The Witcher 3, Doom and Battlefield 4. To me, it looks very decent, and remember that the system supports GPU upgrade like GTX 980 (however no SLI) if you want. The current card is VR ready.
The processor is wonderful in CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8040A, it’s Intel Core i7-6700K offering you four cores and 4.0GHz – 4.2GHz clock speed, the latter with turbo. It’s really one of the best processors there currently exist, with only one or two that are faster. Indeed, in CPU Mark test, the i7-6700K gets a nice 11000 score. It consumes energy like nobody’s business (95W TDP), but I guess that is not a problem for you.
Two storage drives are installed, a huge 2TB 7200RPM hard drive and then a smaller but quicker 120GB solid-state drive. Rest assured, the OS (Windows 10 Home 64-bit) is installed in the SSD.
The desktop uses DDR4 memory and currently has 8GB installed. The mainboard has 4 DIMM slots all in all meaning the maximum memory is 64GB.
The motherboard is MSI B150M BAZOOKA. It features six SATA 3 ports for storage drives. Also keep in mind the board doesn’t support CPU overclocking.
CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8040A has ten USB ports which is a very appropriate amount. Six of them are USB 3.0 and four slower USB 2.0. I’m pretty sure they’re enough even for a person with several devices he wants to connect.
The video card has ports for DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort. Four monitors can be simultaneously hooked up, says the manufacturer.
The motherboard has a Gigabit Ethernet circuit with RJ-45 port in the back panel. Unfortunately, there’s no WiFi included. You need to get a PCI-e WiFi card and install that, or then use a simple USB to WiFi dongle.
As good as the desktop is, it still doesn’t include a monitor. But keyboard and mouse you will get for free.
People have said the computer is very quiet, that’s an important thing for many gamers as far as I know.
When you take a look at user reviews on CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8040A you can almost only see positive comments. I can understand why, because the desktop seems to offer everything a gamer wants: a solid graphics card, high-end components like Core i7 and SSD, and many ports to plug in your devices and monitor(s). Considering all this, the price isn’t bad at all, so do check this out if a very decent gaming desktop is what tickles your fancy!
