A desktop made for gaming can be a good idea if you don’t want to build your own. Such is CyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8020A, a ready-made player’s computer with new Core i5 processor and dedicated Radeon graphics card running the show. In this review you’ll find my professional take whether the desktop is worthy of buying or not…
Good for gaming?
It’s a new 2016 video card you’ll get in CyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8020A, no old stuff here! It’s AMD Radeon RX 480 with 4GB memory. Because it’s recently released no extensive benchmark testing has been done. However, there are already some tests that show its true face. For example, Battlefield 4 on ultra settings and Full HD will net you +60FPS – similar frame rates are expected in GTA 5. You can up the resolution even higher if you want and the FPS will still be rather playable. The Radeon is also VR (virtual reality) compatible. So in short, it’s a great card and at this price point, one of the best you can currently get.
Performance in general
Processor is also new in CyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8020A, a 2016 model Intel Core i5-6402P with a solid quad-core 2.8GHz clock setup – and there’s even turbo boost which will up the clock speed to 3.4GHz. This unit manages to get ~6700 points in CPU Mark so you can definitely throw in some advanced applications and enjoy them with lag-free operations. Memory amount is decent 8GB DDR4, some people might want to double it to 16GB which is possible here.
Unfortunately, the storage section consists of a hard drive, not a solid-state drive. You will of course get plenty of space with the 1TB 7200RPM unit, that goes without saying. But if you want the best performance out of this rig I’d recommend SSD (there’s space inside for that).
Ports and connections
A person interested plugging in some devices will find CyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8020A rather ports-heavy. There are ten USB connectors to choose from – six are USB 3.0 and four USB 2.0. Video outputs are three: HDMI, DVI and DisplayPort, meaning that up to three monitors can be connected at the same time.
There is a Gigabit RJ-45 port in the back panel, and the desktop also comes with USB WiFi adapter which you can plug to one of the ports.
DVD burner is installed in the front panel.
Some other things to keep in mind?
As always, remember that the computer doesn’t include a monitor (only keyboard and mouse).
Operating system is the usual Windows 10 Home 64-bit.
CyberPowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8020A is an affordable desktop for Full HD gaming. There is not much information about the new Radeon RX 480 graphics card, but early benchmarks show it’s surely enough to run new games on high settings and 1080p. Add the powerful Core i5 processor to the bunch and you also got a great computer for all types of software at your disposal. To be honest, it’s one of the best value gaming desktops in 2016!
