It takes quite beefy components to build a proper desktop for gaming. These components in turn cost money, which is rarely good news for people. However, some desktops promise something different: a low-cost gaming experience. Such a computer is CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra GUA3600A, and below we’ll determine if it’s really something you should consider buying…

How fast for games?

Some might think a cheap gaming desktop like CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra GUA3600A must have problematic graphics performance. Admittedly, it’s not the best – the graphics engine is Radeon R7 250 with 2GB dedicated video memory. As real life examples, you can expect around 40FPS on Fallout 4 when using low to medium settings and over 40FPS on GTA 5. So, if you can do with less eye candy, you should be good to go with this Radeon. However, if you’re not happy with the performance, feel free to upgrade the card (it’s attached to PCI-e x16 slot).

How about other components?

CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra GUA3600A comes with a less-known processor, the AMD FX-8320 eight-core chip with 3.5GHz clock speed and 4.0GHz turbo. An excellent score of 8000 is acquired in CPU Mark test, however this comes with a price, high power consumption (max TDP 125W). Nonetheless, there is nothing this computer couldn’t do for you processor-wise.

There are two 8GB DDR3 RAM modules installed, so the total memory is 16GB. The motherboard (AMD 760G chipset) has four slots, meaning you can go all the way to 32GB RAM if you want to.

Two terabyte of storage (7200RPM HDD) is waiting for you, so you shouldn’t ever run out of space for your games, files and other data. Free 3.5″ bay is available inside in case you want to add a solid-state drive (for extra performance that might be a good idea!). Also unoccupied 5.25″ bay is present.

Ports and connections

CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra GUA3600A doesn’t include USB 3.0 ports, just eight USB 2.0 ports (which is however a sufficient amount). There’s also Gigabit RJ-45 for Ethernet connection. The video card holds HDMI, DVI and VGA ports; a 3-monitor setup will work here.

Remember the desktop doesn’t have a WiFi card installed – you need to put one in yourself, or just use a simple USB dongle.

Naturally, an internal DVD burner is provided.

What else to keep in mind?

It looks like the standard PSU is quite weak, just 350W.

Operating system is the pre-installed Windows 10 Home (64-bit).

Included are a wired keyboard and mouse, but no monitor.

Verdict

CyberpowerPC Gamer Ultra GUA3600A is a good choice for a light to moderate gamer – the system will run all games as of mid-2016, but keep in mind it doesn’t have enough oomph to run all of them on maxed out settings. For example, titles like Fallout 4 and Witcher 3 will require lower presets to get good FPS. Less demanding types, including the famous CS: Go, will get great frame rates on high settings. And don’t forget that for all non-gaming use, such as image editing, there’s plenty of performance. So if you’re on hunt for budget gaming rig and can skimp on some settings, I’d recommend this CyberpowerPC desktop for you!
