To play on a computer is a pleasant hobby. However, it’s also a rather pricey hobby – the components that keep frame rates high on games cost a lot of money for some reason. An example of such a pricey yet powerhouse desktop is CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Supreme Liquid Cool SLC8420A. It’s a true gaming computer with GeForce GTX 1070 card running in its core, together with Intel’s i7 processor. I have a good feeling such a desktop will make a gamer happy, but let’s take a look at different aspects before sealing the deal!
So it’s that good for gamers?
I would say CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Supreme Liquid Cool SLC8420A is great for gamers. Graphics card is the state-of-the-art GeForce GTX 1070 with 8GB video RAM. Depending on the game, it’s often a tad (5-10%) slower than the “old master” GTX 980 but there’s still a good reason to call the GTX 1070 a high-end card. For example, if we’re talking about the extremely requiring games like The Witcher 3, you can shoot for Quad HD resolution and high settings and receive ~80 frames per second. Going a step down, Battlefield 4 and GTA 5 would be in the range of 90FPS. These are the frame rates and level of eye candy most avid gamers are happy with.
How about general performance?
Intel Core i7-7700K, what do you know about it? Well, let me tell you it’s a processor of four cores, 4.2GHz clock speed and a 4.5GHz turbo frequency. With these stats, the unit gets over 12000 points in CPU Mark which is a score no common processor can currently beat! So CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Supreme Liquid Cool SLC8420A has the best processor there currently exists, think about that.
It’s quite often when you see two storage drives in high-end gaming desktops. There is a two terabyte hard drive taking care of your real data storage needs. Just don’t expect top performance from it since the spindle speed is your regular 7200RPM. But a welcome addition is the included solid-state drive, a NVMe-technology 128GB unit. The operating system seems to be installed on the SSD.
The memory shouldn’t be problematic for gamers or anybody. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 RAM is installed – if that shouldn’t be enough for you, know that more can be added. I have a reason to believe 64GB is the maximum this unit takes.
Ports and connections
All the important video ports are available on this desktop. You can choose from DVI, DisplayPort or HDMI. In fact, all of them can be used at the same time, meaning three connected monitors simultaneously. This is a neat feat for gamers or digital artists who want a lot of screen estate, more than one monitor can bring them.
USB ports are not lacking either – you’ll get two USB 2.0 and six USB 3.0 connectors on this desktop. As you can see, it’s not a problem here, but some desktops still don’t have any USB 3.0 ports. That is ridiculous in my opinion.
The desktop has a full 7.1 channel audio support which is good for sound purists.
There has been talk that wireless support is not available. But with full certainty I can tell that this model, the CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Supreme Liquid Cool SLC8420A, has WiFi adapter installed. It’s even the high-range 802.11ac card. If you prefer the traditional wired way, please use the Gigabit RJ-45 port in the back panel.
DVD burner is also installed no matter what you have read. Surely, it does not work with BluRays, but who cares when DVDs are by far the most common disc medium these days.
Are there other interesting benefits?
The desktop comes with keyboard and mouse, a small consolation indeed. A bigger hurdle can be the hunt for monitor – you see, display isn’t included.
Windows 10 Home 64-bit is the operating system on this desktop. I believe it’s pre-loaded on the drive without any physical discs being available.
Summing it up
There are myriads of cheaper computers to choose from so why would someone pick CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Supreme Liquid Cool SLC8420A? Well, it’s all a desktop gamer can ask for: brilliant gaming performance, solid processor & SSD and easy upgrade-ability. Out of the box it will run any game, old or new, so no addons are ever needed if you don’t want to. Solid-state drive is indeed a nice touch, so is the included WiFi. If you have the budget for it I can only recommend this CyberpowerPC for hardcore gamers left and right!
