The first thing probably everybody notices about ASUS ROG GL502VS-DB71 is its big price tag. Not many notebooks cost more than this gaming monster; in fact, you could get several budget notebooks for the same money. But such a premium laptop surely offers a lot in return, right?

Good for gaming?

This Asus gives you only the best and it applies to graphics too. GeForce GTX1070 is the name of the graphics card, offering 8GB GDDR5 memory and faster performance than the old champion GTX980. You can turn on maximum settings and Full HD resolution and get smooth frame rates no matter the game (Minecraft, CS: Go, Witcher 3, Doom, Battlefield 4). It’s also Virtual Reality (VR) capable card.

General performance

ASUS ROG GL502VS-DB71 has a solid-state drive (256GB M.2 SATA3) so the whole system will start up quickly; the same goes for programs and software on the drive. It indeed matters which drive you use since there’s also a regular hard drive (1TB 7200RPM) inside which is a bit slower but much bigger in storage size than the SSD.

Processor for this system is Intel Core i7-6700HQ, the company’s better CPU with 2.6GHz clock speed and 3.5GHz turbo. Being a quad-core unit multitasking efforts should be a piece of cake, and in general the processor is well suited for power users (one benchmark called CPU Mark gives it around ~8000 points, while mainstream units get half or less than that). The laptop’s memory is also excellent, 16GB DDR4 is installed (one stick) and one slot is free, so the maximum RAM is 32GB.

What ports and connections are included?

You can spice ASUS ROG GL502VS-DB71 up with peripherals, the laptop includes three USB 3.0 ports and also one USB 3.1 Type-C one which supports several formats. If you want to plug in a monitor (like PC display) that’s possible with the dedicated HDMI and miniDisplayPort connectors.

There are a couple of ways to get this thing connected to Internet: the Gigabit RJ-45 port and WiFi adapter which supports 802.11ac standard and Bluetooth 4.1.

You must remember this laptop features no optical drive. You can get an external one if needed. Memory card reader is included.

Other important things

ASUS ROG GL502VS-DB71 has a sweet screen, a 15.6″ Full HD matte one with hardware supported G-Sync and around 160 degree viewing angles. There won’t be issues with the 1080p resolution even with demanding games because of the capable graphics card. A 1.2MP webcam is there as well, say to hi to your gaming buddies in video chat.

Don’t expect wonderful battery life, the 4-cell 62Whrs battery is surely a beefy one but the components on this laptop will drain it quickly at least when gaming. Expect 2 hours under gameplay, 4 hours when web browsing.

The keyboard features backlight.

ASUS ROG GL502VS-DB71 sports everything a gamer needs: top-of-the-line graphics processor, quad-core CPU, a lot of RAM and a solid-state drive. You can max out settings on any game and enjoy smooth frame rates, there is no question about that. The same goes in case you plan to run demanding software such as video editors – no problems with them. It costs an arm and leg but if you really want the best for gaming, do check out this ASUS!
