So, you’ve got a knack for gaming and want a laptop for your hobby? Here’s a heavyweight idea for you: the ASUS ROG G751JT-WH71(WX). It’s a true gaming notebook, sporting one the best graphics engines, the GeForce GTX 970M. Other components aren’t shabby either, there being Core i7 processor and 16GB memory. But are there any bad things about this laptop, and is it worth the price or not?
So, it’s great for gaming?
I’d say so. ASUS ROG G751JT-WH71(WX) comes with a graphics card called GeForce GTX970M, including 3GB GDDR5 dedicated memory. After the GTX980M, it’s about the best laptop graphics you can get, so expect gaming to be a smooth sail. For example, you can use high settings and Full HD on Grand Theft Auto 5 and FPS will be +60. Fallout 4 will give 50-60FPS and The Witcher 3 around 40. Very good yeah, just remember the GPU is fixed on the motherboard, you can’t upgrade it.
How about for running software?
Naturally, ASUS ROG G751JT-WH71(WX) is good for non-gaming use as well. The processor is old but gold Intel Core i7-4720HQ, a 2014 quad-core model (4th generation) offering 2.6GHz clock and 3.6GHz turbo speed. It still does an excellent job in benchmarks, CPU Mark giving it around 8100 points in its tests. Memory is likewise sufficient, 16GB RAM is installed on two 8GB sticks and it’s upgradeable to 32GB with four sticks.
Hard drive isn’t excellent really, just 1TB 7200RPM cookie cutter model. But a good thing, this laptop does have a second 2.5″ bay for SATA 3 drives. That bay is free, so you can easily add a compatible solid-state drive there!
Ports and connections
So you want to spice up ASUS ROG G751JT-WH71(WX) with some peripherals? No problem, there are plenty of ports for you. The four USB 3.0 connectors are good for devices like printers and external drives. There are also three video outputs to choose from: Thunderbolt 2 (not USB 3.1), HDMI and VGA. The Gigabit LAN port can be used to reach Internet, but there’s also 802.11ac WiFi card with Bluetooth 4.0 if wireless is what you prefer.
A DVD burner is included, keep in mind it doesn’t work with Blu-Ray discs, that’s for sure. Also 2-in-1 media card reader is installed, you can slip in SD and MMC cards and transfer data that way.
Are there other features and benefits?
The 17.3″ non-touch matte display should be beautiful. Naturally, it supports Full HD (1920×1080) resolution, and the panel has IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology which translates to around 180 degree viewing angles. Hardware G-Sync is also there. The webcam on top of the display supports 1.2MP resolution.
The 8-cell non-removable battery is a heavyweight one, but the components are power hungry as well! Hence, you will get around three hours operating time when browsing the web, and 1-2 hours under gameplay.
The keyboard is backlit here.
Summing it up
ASUS ROG G751JT-WH71(WX) is a real gamer’s laptop. It will do its most important job without problems, which is to run games at high settings and top FPS, however the notebook also costs quite much. Thus, I can recommend it for the most enthusiastic gamers who also might want to use complex software on their systems. If you’re looking for a non-gaming computer, don’t spend money on this one, but for playing it’s one of the better choices currently available!
