Are you looking for a premium laptop? If that is the case, an Apple computer might suit you. They’re often seen as “better” choices, many times found in cool universities and cafes. They’re indeed durable, good-looking and powerful, but also rather expensive… Let’s see more about one of those, the Apple MMGF2LL/A!

The good

Apple MMGF2LL/A is a 2015 model, it includes some decent components for home and power users alike. For example, the processor is Intel Core i5-5250U, a 5th generation dual-core chip with 1.6GHz clock and 2.7Ghz turbo speed. The ~3600 CPU Mark score ensures that all programs you throw at it will be handled with no problems. There is also 8GB RAM installed, bear in mind you can not upgrade it yourself.

A solid-state drive is always a good thing in notebook. Here it is a 128GB PCI-e based one. It’s quick but not that big storage; if you need more storage you should buy another model as the current one is soldered on-board (can’t be changed).

You’ll get a beefy 54Wh battery with this computer. It’s going to last more than ten hours with a single charge, that’s excellent. Remember you can not replace the battery yourself, these Apples are made that way.

The item is 0.6 inches thick and weighs 2.96 pounds, it’s a damn lightweight laptop!

The bad

Pretty much the only bad thing with Apple MMGF2LL/A is the gaming performance. Such a small notebook doesn’t come with dedicated graphics, just a processor-integrated graphics chip (Intel HD 6000) which always translates to slowness. Now, if you were going to play GTA 5, you’d only get ~25FPS on low settings and 800×600 resolution. That won’t be beautiful or smooth but still playable to some. A better-running example is Counter-Strike: Go, on 720p and high settings you’ll get +60FPS.

Something else to keep in mind?

The non-retina screen of Apple MMGF2LL/A is 13.3 inches big, a size perhaps tad too small for some people but at the same time perfect for portability. Resolution is 1440×900, not Full HD, but it’s acceptable for this display diagonal. The screen is glossy. The webcam supports Facetime.

There are two USB 3.0 ports to hook up devices such as external hard drive. Video output is Thunderbolt 2 – no HDMI is present but with Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter you can get that, as well. You won’t find RJ-45 here for networking but using the WiFi adapter (802.11ac + Bluetooth 4.0) is a piece of cake.

DVD burner isn’t available but you can plug one to the USB port. SD/SDHC/SDXC card reader is included.

The keyboard has backlight feature.

Apple MMGF2LL/A is just like any notebook from that company: quite a powerhouse, beautifully designed, featherweight and pricey. The performance is very adequate for day-to-day tasks as well as for heavier programs, like Photoshop (a popular app for Apple, heh). Being a small 13-inch notebook you’ll find out it’s easy to carry around. Likewise, the +10 hours battery life is nothing but good news for on-the-go computing. All in all, if you can stand its price and want quality, it’d be a good idea to choose this Apple laptop.
