Is it an affordable gaming laptop you’re after? Well, it’s not a very easy task, because those computers tend to cost a lot. But here is a cheap one, the Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G-792U with GeForce GTX 960M graphics processor. Let’s see if it’s really a valuable pick for you or not…

How good for gaming?

Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G-792U is, by definition, a gaming laptop. The graphics engine GeForce GTX 960M should put a smile on your face – it’s a dedicated unit with 2GB memory and runs any game fine. For example, you can fire up the popular Grand Theft Auto 5, use high settings with Full HD resolution and expect the FPS to be around 40-50. In a similar vein, you can expect +60FPS on games like Battlefield 4.

And performance for software?

Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G-792U doesn’t only have good graphics, it also has a great processor. That’s the Intel Core i7-4720HQ, a quad-core (although a bit old 2014) powerhouse with 2.6GHz clock frequency and 3.6Ghz turbo. These numbers give you a hint how fast it is, and also take a look at benchmark tests: over 8000 points in CPU Mark. Be it a web browser or a heavy image editor like Adobe Illustrator, you’ll have no problems!

Other components are great as well. There’s a single 8GB DDR3 low-voltage chip installed for memory, and another slot is free, meaning you can upgrade to 16 gigabytes. The hard drive is a spinning type 1TB 5400RPM SATA unit. It might not be the best choice for you, however keep in mind the laptop has M.2 SATA 2280 slot inside for a solid-state drive upgrade. For example, the popular Samsung 850 EVO M.2 fits here.

What ports and connections are included?

This Acer has a set of ports for your peripherals: three USB 3.0 for printers, drives etc. and HDMI-out for hooking up another monitor.

To access Internet you can use the Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45 connector) or the WiFi AC card with Bluetooth 4.0 supported.

This unit does not include a DVD burner, you must use an external one if you want discs. SD card reader is installed.

Other benefits for you

Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G-792U has a decent display for a gamer, 15.6 inches diagonal with 1920×1080 resolution, matte finish and TN panel. Given the beefy graphics, you shouldn’t have problems with using the Full HD resolution at all times. Webcam on top of this display supports up to 720p video resolution.

Battery life (3-cell unit) while gaming is the usual two hours, more if browsing the web etc.

The keyboard is backlit, single color I believe.

Summing it up

Simply put, Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G-792U offers very good bang for your buck. The price is not that high, but a gamer is surely getting a lot: dedicated graphics, a high-end processor and Full HD display. Running many games at the sweet 60FPS with plenty of eye candy on is reality. For software use, this thing also flies, although if you’re not planning to play, it doesn’t make sense to buy a gaming laptop. But if gaming is a dear hobby of yours and you don’t want to pay a lot, consider checking this Acer out!
